The Elite Retreat: Less Burn, More Return

London, UK – October 22, 2007 - InfoPrint Solutions, a joint venture between Ricoh and IBM, today announced that one of the UK’s leading marketing services providers, CDMS, has installed new production print solutions and workflow management from InfoPrint Solutions. This new output environment enables CDMS to offer its customers a direct marketing service with a choice of integrated communications channels across email, mail and SMS depending on customers’ preferences and previous behaviour.

Littlewoods, the UK’s largest home shopping and multi-channel retailer, is one of the first CDMS customers looking to take advantage of this new multi-channel offering. Littlewoods was one of the first catalogue retailers to fully integrate its online and offline capabilities, reflecting a demand from home shopping consumer who like to ‘flick to click’ - browsing in a catalogue and then going online to place an order.

“This is the beginning of the end of direct mail carpet bombing,” said Martyn Viquerat, operations director at CDMS. “As consumers become more tech savvy and environmentally aware they will respond better to those organisations who communicate the right offer at the right time over their preferred channel.

“We can now focus on the cost per respondee rather than the traditional CPM (cost per mailpack). Only InfoPrint Solutions could understand our vision and deliver a ‘one-stop shop’, future-proof solution to meet these demands,” continued Viquerat.

CDMS has installed four InfoPrint 4100 HD5/6 and two InfoPrint 4000 monochrome solutions following its deployment of InfoPrint Workflow software, in conjunction with Exstream Dialogue enterprise document automation software, in early 2007 to manage the CDMS cross-media output environment.

With new InfoPrint and Exstream technology, combined with CDMS expertise, customers can now produce effective consumer marketing campaigns that link to fully personalised web pages created on-the-fly, generating offers based on customer insight.

CDMS is enabling its customers to take a more responsible approach to direct mail following a recent Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) report on waste in direct marketing and in anticipation of direct mail taxation in the UK. The InfoPrint and Exstream solution allows CDMS to deliver a targeted message across integrated multiple channels and encourages linking print to web.

CDMS issues 300 million bills, statements and letters annually on behalf of its customers, taking responsibility for all data and image asset management, document personalisation, selective insertion and postal fulfilment. This proposition now positions CDMS to deliver trans-promotional communication over multiple channels.

“CDMS has grown four-fold to a £100-million business over the last twelve months,” said Phil Self, InfoPrint Solutions UK managing director. ”The company is securing its reputation with leading-edge marketing solutions through its innovative use of technology to understand and interact with consumers as well as its focus on environmental issues.”

InfoPrint Solutions has enabled CDMS to transition from home-grown, standalone systems into a homogeneous end-to-end management system while lowering the total cost of printing. CDMS also has the option to upgrade to InfoPrint Solution’s full Automated Document Factory (ADF) and full colour digital printing in the future. InfoPrint Workflow seamlessly integrates Exstream Dialogue into CDMS’s document production process so there is little or no manual intervention required by CDMS print operators.

The InfoPrint 4100 HD5/6 Advanced Function Printing (AFP) System is a continuous forms printer that produces the high image and text quality that was traditionally only available using cut-sheet printers. The solution also provides the integrity required for an automated production environment.

At up to 100.6 meters (330 feet) per minute and 1,354 impressions per minute for A4 (or 1440 ipm for letter) it offers one of the highest speeds for electrophotographic printing and allows CDMS to produce more output with fewer devices and less operator time.
